The main character of “Relax” is “Lo Schiavo Morente” by Michelangelo, painted in 1513. He is collapsing in a languid pose. The sensation the artist wanted to communicate was the slipping along the pillar. Through the slow unwind of the limbs, the artwork suggests the idea of awakening and the resurgent of conscious awareness. The instant before we wake up is the place where unreal colors and geometrical shapes live. Our primitive ideas, that rapidly disappear when we open our eyes.
